Walkera QR X350 PRO quadcopter review

Food

By default, the quadcopter is equipped with a 3-cell lithium-polymer battery 11.1V 5200mAh 25C (for the previous version, the battery capacity is 2200mAh). According to the specification, it provides a maximum flight time of 25 minutes. In the test with a mixed style of piloting with the camera turned on, this time was no more than 18 minutes. Charging time from the included charger is 5-7 hours.

Walkera QR X350 PRO quadcopter review

Due to the fact that some users state the fact of recharging the battery with a complete charger. For safety reasons, it is recommended that you refuse to use the stock charger and charge the battery using proven devices, such as “iMax B6-AC”, etc. Recall that even an insignificant overcharge of LiPo batteries leads to at least a malfunction and, at a maximum, to ignition!

Control

Quadcopter Walkera QR X350PRO can be equipped with four types of control equipment. They provide the maximum range of controlled flight, including from the first person from 1-2 km.

  1. Walkera Devo7 (7ch 2.4GHz)
  2. Walkera Devo10 (10ch 2.4GHz)
  3. Walkera Devo F7 (7-channel FPV controller with built-in 8-channel VTX 5.8GHz and built-in 3.5″ LCD)
  4. Walkera Devo F12E (12CH FPV Control Gear with Built-in 32CH VTX 5.8GHz and Built-in 5″ LCD)

Walkera QR X350 PRO quadcopter review

Flight modes

By default, the Walkera QR X350PRO quadcopter received three programmed flight modes:

  1. GPS – suitable for large-scale shooting. In this mode, the electronics noticeably limits the angles of inclination and the dynamics of the quad as a whole. The drone becomes more calm. Using the GPS module, it allows you to maintain a position in accordance with the current coordinates without the participation of the pilot.
  2. Altitude – suitable for dynamic flights in the “Gas to the floor” mode. Electronics fully reveals the potential of the quadrocopter. By means of a barometric sensor, it allows you to hold the altitude horizontally. The pilot also needs to control the horizontal displacement of the drone, which can occur, for example, due to gusts of wind.
  3. RTH (return home) – the classic mode of return to the take-off point. It is activated by the pilot from the toggle switch on the control equipment, or it is activated automatically when communication is lost or when the battery is low, followed by automatic landing.

Walkera QR X350 PRO quadcopter review

Note the fact that in RTH mode the drone returns to the takeoff site and performs auto-landing with an error of 1.5 – 3m. It is worth considering this, otherwise the pilot risks dropping the quadcopter!

Waypoint flight

The Walkera QR X350PRO quadcopter can fly waypoints using the pre-installed MissionPlanner software.

Walkera QR X350 PRO quadcopter review

Test Drive

In the Walkera QR X350PRO test, it showed confident traction typical of budget brushless drones. He especially showed himself in Altitude mode. The control is stable, I didn’t have to get used to it, the work of the 6-axis gyroscope and electronics in general affects. In windy weather, flight qualities deteriorate significantly, the bulkiness of the structure affects.

Walkera QR X350 PRO quadcopter review

Price

The quadcopter is sold by the developer through the Amazon Internet marketplace at a price of $325.

Minuses

  • Not ready to fly out of the box (requires setup of both drone and gimbal and remote
  • Factory low battery warning causes drone to crash (need to turn off and set buzzer)
  • Dislikes flying in windy weather
  • Constantly in flight, the battery compartment opens
  • The hinged part of the drone supports is not fixed (you have to set it manually)

The optimal ratio of price and quality of the product. Will be fully appreciated by advanced pilots who like to experiment with PC settings. It does not fly out of the box, it requires gimbal adjustment, disabling the factory low battery warning system, due to its incorrect execution, as well as the installation of a simple buzzer to control the low charge and adjust the control equipment. Strongly dislikes flying in windy weather. The main purpose, provided that a good camera and a 3-axis gimbal are retrofitted, is amateur photo / video shooting. Age limit 14+.

Motors

Runner 250 has Walkera WK-WS-28-014 2500KV brushless motors in tandem with 20A Runner 250 ESC. In practice, they have proven themselves exclusively from the best side. They provide exemplary flight dynamics in the occupied niche of racing UAVs.

Walkera Runner 250 Quadcopter Review

The build quality of the stock two-bladed 140mm rotors leaves much to be desired. In the future, it is recommended to stop using them and install better props.

Camera

On board the R250 is a 800TVL heading FPV camera with a variable tilt angle. Works in tandem with a 25mW (for CE) or 200mW (for FCC) analog video transmitter. In practice, with 200mW VTX provide optimal first-person flight quality at a distance of up to 350 meters (with a declared maximum distance of 1 km), then a gradual deterioration in broadcast quality, which is generally the norm for this niche of racing UAVs.

Walkera Runner 250 Quadcopter Review

Food

The quadcopter is equipped with a 3S 11.1V 2200mAh 25C lithium polymer battery with an XT60 connector. According to the specification, it provides a maximum flight time of 14 minutes. In practice, in mixed piloting mode, this time is 6 minutes. In the “gas to the floor” mode, no more than 4 minutes of flight. Charging time from the supplied charger is no more than 120 minutes.

Walkera Runner 250 Quadcopter Review

Due to the fact that some users state the fact of recharging the battery with a complete charger. For safety reasons, it is recommended that you refuse to use the stock charger and charge the battery using proven devices, such as “iMax B6-AC”, etc. Recall that even an insignificant overcharge of LiPo batteries subsequently leads to at least a malfunction and, at a maximum, to ignition!

Control

The R250 is controlled by amateur 7-channel control equipment – Walkera Devo 7. It operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. By default, power is supplied from 8 × AA, which in practice is not enough for a long time. Provides a distance of up to 700 meters in an interference-free area. Supports work in the “Coach-Student” mode through the included cable.

Walkera Runner 250 Quadcopter Review

In the future, it is recommended to abandon the use of AA batteries and install a LiPo battery (for example, 3S 2200mAh) using the JST connector. This approach will significantly extend the overall operating time of the remote control.

Flight modes

At the disposal of the user of the 2-mode flight:

  1. Normal – the angles are minimal, the electronics 100% control the horizontal position of the drone.
  2. Roll flight — electronics is disabled, the angles are maximum. Allows you to perform coups.

Test Drive

Walkera Runner 250 has established itself as a professional model. Separately, it is worth noting the well-tuned flight controller, the drone is indicatively stable, controllable and dynamic for the occupied niche of racing UAVs. The quality of the flight from the first person deserves respect, there are practically no broadcast failures even in bad weather. An equally important role is played by a quite bright LED backlight both in front and behind, which allows you to easily determine the direction of the drone during visual piloting. Failsafe mode is not configured by default, if the connection is lost, the drone motors continue to work. To change the default “Failsafe” settings in the DEVO 7 menu: Settings/Functions/Safe/Throttle (Throttle)/Change “HOLD” to “SAFE”.

Appearance is the “calling card” of the drone and without exaggeration reflects the full potential of the F210. The FPV camera is located in front, covered with a plastic shield made of fairly strong plastic. All supporting elements of the drone are now made of carbon fiber. It is safe to say that he is not afraid of falls and blows. A powerful front-facing LED light works in tandem with a camera adapted to shooting in low light conditions. Everything is done in exemplary quality and unique racing style, taking into account aerodynamics.

The official release of the F210 racing drone from Walkera

The drone is equipped with powerful Walkera WK-WS-28-014A 2500KV brushless motors working in tandem with 20A high-performance ESCs. They are located on four 3mm carbon beams equidistant from each other, which allowed the developers to achieve the best stability and controllability for this model in all piloting modes. In practice, they provide “crazy” dynamics for a serial racing drone. It is unlikely that the closest competitors will find a stock rival capable of showing a similar flight potential.

On board the drone FPV video camera 700TVL with a viewing angle of 120° adapted for shooting in low light conditions. In practice, it provides an exemplary quality of flight from the first person. Operates in tandem with a 25mW (for CE) or 200mW (for FCC) analog video transmitter.

The position of the FPV camera can be adjusted. The maximum angle (for experienced pilots) is 45º.

CL antenna with SMA connector is mated with a flexible coaxial cable.

Walkera F210 antenna cable

Most of the electronics are accessible from the bottom of the drone. For example: 5.8GHz VTX and OSD with 2.4GHz receiver. To access them, unscrew the three screws at the bottom of the drone.

Walkera F210 all electronics

The default video transmission frequency is 5733 MHz, channel #8. The frequency can be set manually using a three-position DIP switch on any of the eight available channels. There is also another two position DIP switch that activates and deactivates the on-screen display (OSD).

Food

The official release of the F210 racing drone from Walkera

By default, the drone comes with a high-performance lithium polymer battery – Walkera 4S 14.8V 1300mAh 40C LiPo. According to the specification provides a maximum flight time of 9 minutes. In practice, this time was in mixed mode: 7-8 minutes, in the “Gas to the floor” mode: 3-4 minutes. Charging time from the supplied charger is 90 minutes. When the voltage drops below 14V, the buzzer turns on, which is impossible not to hear.

The XT60 connector is located vertically. The drone battery, as you can see, does not completely occupy the compartment, which gives us the opportunity to install a larger capacity battery. Battery compartment wall thickness: 1.5mm, execution material: carbon.

Walkera F210 battery compartment

Control

The unchanged Devo7 is not a bad 7-channel remote, but it is very heavy. It can also be noted that the equipment itself is powered by eight AA batteries and, as practice has shown, they do not last long. Therefore, the control over the charge level of the transmitter with this type of power supply must be constant! Provides a distance of up to 700 meters in an interference-free area.

Walkera F210 remote control

Note the fact that as soon as the connection with the drone is lost, it uncontrollably gains momentum to the maximum. Failsafe mode, like on the Walkera Runner 250, is not adjustable here.

Test Drive

The power on the remote control is turned on first, and only then the power on the drone. Linking the drone to the remote control will be accompanied by beeps and LED flashes on the back of the quad. The completion of the binding will be indicated by a permanently lit red LED on the left side of the LED block, and the beeps will stop.

In order to activate the drone motors, you need to:

  1. Enable Remote
  2. Turn on the drone
  3. On the remote control, move the left stick to the left (see illustration below). Activation will be indicated by a red light LED on the right side of the LED block with sound. Now two red diodes are lit on the block. The drone is ready to fly.

Be careful when you pick up the remote when starting to run. The drone is very fast and if activated carelessly, the user risks harming himself and others!

Flight qualities

Driving the F210 proved to be very easy. The drone will impress any critic with its speed and maneuverability. Vertical traction at a height. If you lose contact with the drone, you can watch it take off into the sky with maximum acceleration, followed by a fall from a great height. Keep in touch! We hope that this bug will be fixed by the developers in the near future. FPV signal is excellent. Displayed information FPV display does not overload. Fantastic performance of flips. When the voltage drops below 14V, the buzzer turns on, which is impossible not to hear.

Super drone, if not perfect, then certainly excellent. In any race will be a worthy opponent. Not adjustable “Failsafe”, but this will be resolved by the developers in the near future with a firmware update. Large range of adjustments. The risk of losing radio contact with the drone if you are flying within a radius of 400 meters is extremely small. Very durable. Decent FPV system. Ready to fly out of the box. Suitable for both an amateur and a professional, given that the pros love to manually configure the PC and work with a soldering iron in order to further upgrade the quad.

Frame

All elements of the Walkera Furious 320 are made of high quality materials, most of which are made of carbon. As a result, the Furious 320 is lightweight with maximum strength. The designers did a great job with the appearance of the drone, but the trick lies deeper than just a beautiful design. The frame of the Furious 320 is designed in such a way that only low-cost components will be subject to destruction in case of serious accidents.

PC

The developers subtly felt the contingent of future users of the Furious 320 and left the code of the flight controller under the control of the CC3D system open. Now the pilot can fine-tune the drone for himself. This option will be most appreciated by advanced users, but amateurs will also show no small interest in it. In order to make changes to the operation of the controller, the drone must be connected to a PC or laptop.

Walkera Vitus 320: A Strong Competitor

Walkera Vitus 320: a strong competitor

Walkera Vitus 320: a strong competitor

The drone requires software development. We recommend to refrain from buying Walkera VITUS 320, at least until the first stable positive reviews!

Introduction

Looking at the drones from DJI Innovations, it’s hard to imagine a competitor that could proudly stand next to it. Current trends require household drone manufacturers to pursue clear goals: manufacturability, compactness, high quality shooting, long flight time, flight range, affordable price. And any deviation threatens to reduce demand for manufactured products.

Until recently, the Mavic Pro didn’t even come close to competing and proudly held the lead. But, quite recently, the well-known brand Walkera finally presented their new product, which they showed back in January at CES 2017 – the Walkera VITUS 320.

Walkera Vitus 320: a strong competitor

About the product

The fuselage of the drone is visually very similar to the well-known Inspire 2 drone. Its main part is occupied by a battery on the top of which there is a power button and an indication of the current charge, where again the Inspire design can be traced. The drone arms, landing legs, and rotors all received folding mechanisms, all for the sake of compactness. When folded, VITUS measures 9.3 x 23.3 x 11.4cm (Mavic: 8.3 x 8.3 x 19.8cm), unfolded: 27.9 × 22.9 × 11.3 cm, at 890 grams (Mavic: 743 grams).

Peculiarities

  • Foldable design
  • 4K camera in 3-axis mechanical gimbal
  • Video stream over Wi-Fi at 5.8GHz
  • 3-way obstacle detection system
  • Positioning GPS/GLONASS + 2 × optical and 1 × IR sensors
  • Control at 2.4GHz

Walkera Rodeo 150: an amateur lighter without registration

Introduction

When one of the most popular racing drones today in RTF format, the Walkera F210, was born, none of the developers could have imagined that soon drones weighing from 250 grams to 25 kilograms would be subject to mandatory registration. Therefore, immediately after the resounding success of the F210, the company offered the consumer an equally interesting model, already implemented on a 150mm nylon monolithic frame. The novelty not only inherited almost all the electronic stuffing of the “heavyweight predecessor”, but also managed to stay in the weight category that does not require registration. We are glad to present you one of the fastest quads in the amateur segment up to 250 grams – Walkera Rodeo 150.

Motors

Walkera Rodeo 150: an amateur lighter without registration

The Rodeo 150 received custom-sized brushless motors WK-WS-17-002. The manufacturer does not specify information about the power of the motors. Similarly, there is no information about the speed controllers used.

Note that the R150 will no longer be able to upgrade the rotors by a size larger.

Camera

Walkera Rodeo 150: an amateur lighter without registration

Compact camera with 600TVL resolution. Supports PAL and NTSC color systems, but there were no visible switches on the drone. Field of view (FOV) – 110°. In practice, the camera showed a well-tuned ISO. The sensor used is most likely CMOS.

video transmitter

Walkera Rodeo 150: an amateur lighter without registration

The Rodeo 150 can be supplied with two types of VTX:

  1. CE – power 25mW; 8 channels
  2. FCC – 200mW; 4 channels

When measuring VTX (CE), the information about the power of the video transmitter specified in the specification was confirmed and amounted to about 25mW (regardless of the channel). With this power, the FPV distance was approximately 100-150 meters.

By default, Vfreq is B1 = 5733 MHz (on the table from the instructions, this is channel 8):

It would be best to change the stock video transmitter antenna to a clover-type “Mushroom”.

Food

Walkera Rodeo 150: an amateur lighter without registration

The Walkera Rodeo 150 drone is equipped with a two-cell lithium-polymer battery, 850mAh capacity, 25C discharge current, with an EC2 type connector. Despite its modest characteristics, without exaggeration, it provides the quad with exponential dynamics. The specification stated the flight time in 2D mode: 7-8 minutes, in practice it was no more than 6 minutes. In 3D mode, the flight time is reduced to 4 minutes.

As an upgrade to an expensive battery from Walkera, a battery is suitable – Turnigy nano-tech 2S 850mAh 25 ~ 40C LiPo. At the same time, we recommend abandoning the EC2 connector and switching to the more popular XT30.

Control

Walkera Rodeo 150: an amateur lighter without registration

Rodeo 150 can be equipped with classic 7-channel equipment – Devo7, like its predecessor F210. Powered by 8 × AA, which in fact does not last long. It’s also worth noting that the Devo7 is not compatible with DeviationTX firmware, and just as importantly, it’s unforgivably heavy. Provides a distance of up to 700 meters in an interference-free area.

Price

pros

  • Execution quality
  • Design
  • Stable and well tuned drone
  • PC SPracingF3
  • Dynamic even on 2S
  • failsafe
  • Vari-angle camera
  • Buzzer
  • FPV Quality/Remote Distance
  • Price/Does not require registration

Minuses

  • No OSD
  • Heavy Devo 7
  • Not compatible with 4″ props
  • No power off button
  • Stock battery price

The Walkera Rodeo 150 is, without exaggeration, a remarkably stable and fast drone. Despite the modest stock power, it shows excellent dynamics throughout all 4 minutes of active piloting. It does not require any pre-flight settings, it really flies out of the box (RTF), unless you have to activate the buzzer, which this model already has on board. It’s also worth noting the well-tuned FPV camera, and the weight that frees the R150 from mandatory registration. The main disadvantages include the lack of OSD, heavy equipment and the high cost of the quad’s stock power supply. Pilots with an initial level of training will fully appreciate the Rodeo 150, after which it will be possible to safely move on to something more professional in the drone racing niche.
