Appearance

The quadrocopter has an impressive size, so it is not safe to use it in an apartment. MJX X101 is equipped with a suspension with vibration dampers, which, albeit slightly, but cope with the negative impact of vibrations emanating from collector motors on the quality of shooting of the installed camera. At the same time, the suspension is a compartment for the quad battery.

Motors

MJX X101 quadcopter review

The MJX X101 quadrocopter is equipped with collector motors, the potential of which is enough to fly with GoPro cameras without a significant loss in controllability. The transmission of torque is implemented through a gear, which in general adds a little noise.

Camera

The developer completes the MJX X101 with two types of cameras С4016/С4018. The quality of shooting in both is below average. In addition to video recording and photos, they broadcast a video stream via Wi-Fi to a smartphone (IOS / Android) paired with the camera.

MJX X101 quadcopter review

It is better to abandon the purchase of stock cameras and buy a camera with better shooting quality. In practice, such models as GoPro and analogues, Mobius MINI or Firefly Q6 have proven themselves well.

Food

MJX X101 quadcopter review

In the arsenal of the MJX X101 is a powerful 2-can lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 1200 mAh with a discharge current of 25C, which is powerful for this niche of drones. Provides a flight time of no more than 10 minutes. It charges from the included charger in an average of 2-2.5 hours.

Remote Control

MJX X101 quadcopter review

The MJX X101 quadcopter comes with a classic 4-channel remote control GR-246R operating at a frequency of 2.4GHz. Provides a flight range of up to 100 meters (in an interference-free zone). In a metropolitan area, this distance is no further than 50 meters. The equipment is powered by three 1.5V AA batteries.

The smartphone holder is included in the kit only when ordering a complete set with a camera.

Assignment of buttons and switches

MJX X101 quadcopter review

flight qualities

The MJX X101 quadcopter in tests showed good dynamics with a distinctive vertical thrust. Wind resistant. I didn’t have to get used to the controls. The function of returning the drone to the equipment, the Headless mode and flips worked without comment.

It is worth remembering that the X101 returns to the equipment with the direct participation of the pilot. Otherwise, the quad runs the risk of encountering obstacles on the return path and eventually losing its integrity.

MJX-X101-fly

In practice, the flight time was no more than 10 minutes. The operation of the quad in combination with a Wi-Fi camera type С4016/С4018 negatively affects the total flight time (no more than 7 minutes).

Price

An excellent budget option exclusively for the first acquaintance with the UAV. Lovers of proper shooting pass by. The presence of a suspension for GoPro cameras is more of a marketing ploy of the company than a feature. It should be understood that without two or three axial suspension, it will not be possible to achieve beautiful and stable frames. In general, an excellent simulator for obtaining primary skills in piloting, able to endure the mistakes of beginners. When retrofitted with GoPRO / Mobius MINI / Firefly Q6 cameras, you will significantly extend the positive emotions from operation.

MJX X705C Quadcopter Review
MJX X705C Quadcopter Review

Introduction

Another development of the company Meijiaxin Toys – MJX R / C Technic – quadrocopter MJX X705C. At the moment, it is firmly entrenched in the “Purchased drones” segment in terms of price / quality ratio. The design is inherited from Syma X5C and remotely from DJI Phantom 3. Of course, it is far from Phantom, but the difference between Syma X5C and MJX X705C is visible to the naked eye. Next, about the most important details of the popular model.

About the product

Let’s immediately note the plastic of the MJX X705C, the quality deserves respect for the UAV niche it occupies. Will not fasten, does not bend, the body of the drone as one monolithic structure. Equipped with bright LED lighting. Drone dimensions 315 × 315 × 120mm. Drone weight ≈ 102 gr.

MJX X705C orange

flight qualities

The MJX X705C quadcopter will please any beginner. Stable, it reacts accurately to the movement of the sticks, you won’t have to get used to it. Actively rotates on the ruder, performs programmed flips without any problems.

The X705C motors are commutator type, the torque is transmitted through gearboxes.

MJX X705C motors

Camera

The MJX X705C quadcopter received an FPV kit in its arsenal, through which first-person flight is implemented for this model. The quality of the 0.3MP Wi-Fi camera C4005 leaves much to be desired. In practice, 1280 × 720p (HD) does not reach the resolution declared by the manufacturer, a maximum of 640 × 480p at 15 fps. Overall picture quality is below average. The camera is controlled using a smartphone through a free application. The main purpose of the Wi-Fi camera is far from shooting, but a simple introduction to flying in FPV mode.

It is worth remembering that for all its simplicity, FPV over Wi-Fi has one significant disadvantage – the delay. Its value increases with each meter the distance of the drone from the smart device with which the camera was paired.

MJX X705C camera

Food

The MJX X705C comes with a 3.7V 550(600) mAh lithium-polymer battery. Depending on the piloting modes, it provides a flight time of no more than 8 minutes. Battery charging time ≈ 120 minutes.

The MJX X705C quadcopter can be equipped with both 550mAh and 600mAh batteries. In tests, there was no significant difference in flight time.

MJX X705C battery compartment

First start

Having assembled the MJX X705C in flight condition, postpone the installation of the rotors on the drive shafts of the motors for later. This is due for security reasons. The rotors are put on after binding the remote control to the drone.

Drone tethering

  1. Turn on the drone – on the back of the drone, the switch is in the “On” position. The aircraft’s LED light will flash rapidly.
  2. We install the drone on a flat surface with red lights towards the pilot.
  3. We turn on the remote control. We wait 5-7 seconds, after which we move the left stick from the lower position to the upper one and back in one motion.
  4. The indication on the remote control will flash green, and the backlight on the aircraft will stop flashing. Wait for the remote control indicator to turn on permanently. The binding is completed and the drone is ready to fly.
  5. Install the rotors on the drone motor drive shafts.

Linking the camera to a smartphone

Next, we proceed to bind WiFi toamers C4005 to a smartphone. To do this, download the free application “MJX C4005F”.

  1. After downloading the application, turn on Wi-Fi on your smartphone. Find “MJX C4005 FPV_17C1” in the list of connected devices and click “Connect”.
  2. Run the previously downloaded application “MJX C4005F”. The “Monitor” icon will appear on the display, touch it. Binding is completed correctly if the live image from the drone’s camera appears on the display.

In addition to displaying the FPV image, the application will allow you to control: video recording, photography, displaying the transmitted image at 180º and assigning a location for saving the footage on the smartphone, as well as displaying information about the Wi-Fi connection signal level.

Introduction

Today we have a tiny MJX X909T quadcopter on review. Despite the size, the quadcopter received an FPV module operating at an analog frequency of 5.8GHz and a few more functions, which are described below. We also note right away that this is the smallest drone in the MJX lineup, broadcasting a video image at an analog frequency of 5.8GHz without delay. By tradition with features.

  • FPV HD camera
  • Video stream transmission at analog frequency 5.8GHz
  • Control equipment with built-in 5.8cm LCD display
  • 6 axis gyroscope

Appearance

FPV flying at home is easy and simple

MJX X909T looks rather unusual and attractive. The design is a bit comical, like a ladybug or a flying “Kinder egg”. To the touch, the quadrocopter is strong, it feels made of high-quality plastic. In practice, this has been confirmed. MJX X909T withstands numerous crashes without a single damage, even for main rotors.

mjx_X909T_black_motor

MJX X909T is really very small as in the photos of the manufacturer, which I never trust. This fact of correspondence is even surprising. There are no weak points on the body of the drone, the frame is monolithic and more stable.

mjx_X909T_black_niz

I suspect that if you fall from a great height on your belly, you can still damage the bottom cover, since there are no legs for landing. The battery is built into the case, which means that additional batteries will not help us. You will have to put the MJX X909T on charge, which will take about one hour.

flight qualities

Flying the MJX X909T is very easy. Insert a microSD card into the bottom slot on the remote control. Turn on the drone and remote control. Then we arm the motors – we move the gas joystick up and then down. MJX X909T is ready to fly. You can see the feed from the camera on the FPV monitor and record your flight.

mjx_X909T_naklon

The quadcopter has good speed and motor response at full throttle. It has two speed modes, high and low. If you are going to fly in an apartment, I advise you to include reduced costs. Especially if for FPV you will use a monitor on the remote control, the size of which is only 5.8cm. Flips, return to the remote control, headless mode, the MJX X909T drone does all this effortlessly. The flight time corresponds to the declared specification – 5 minutes, provided that you do not record video. With the recording, the time will be at best 4 minutes.

Camera and FPV

The picture quality of the camera is the most common for drones in this niche. I don’t think anyone will buy this quadcopter for filming. Video is only needed if you are doing tricks or other complex elements and want to show them to your friends.

mjx_X909T_pix

Photos and videos have the same resolution of 1280×720 pixels. But in fact, it does not reach HD quality, at least when viewing recorded video. But at the time of the FPV flight, the picture is much better, apparently the manufacturer focused exclusively on FPV flight. Video transmitted at a frequency of 5.8GHz does not have a noticeable lag. The viewing angle of the camera is narrow, which makes it very difficult to fly indoors.

Remote Control

mjx_X909T_pult

MJX controls are probably the best. Well built, sturdy with comfortable buttons and just plain cute. The equipment of the MJX X909T is no exception, even with a built-in 5.8cm monitor.

Equipment

The MJX X909T comes in a compact box that is little more than a regular smartphone. It is convenient to carry it with you.

In the package you will find:

  • Quadcopter MJX X909T
  • Remote control with built-in screen
  • 6 spare propellers

In general, I really liked the MJX X909T, it does not surpass its competitors in terms of functionality. Just does its job (FPV flying) without a hitch. The drone performs pretty well as advertised, and its super small size makes it the perfect travel companion.

If you are new to FPV, I advise you to start with drones of exactly the same class as the MJX X909T. And then move on to more serious frame sizes. The X909T has an affordable price, which makes it very easy to enter the world of drones and FPV flying. You will not regret!

About the product

MJX BUGS 3 reaches the consumer in a classic cardboard box for MJX Toys, inside of which there is a foam box. The quality of workmanship for a budget drone deserves respect. The body of the drone is made of nylon fiber, which has proven to be a durable and reliable material, which cannot be said about the landing legs, which are made of ordinary plastic and are not reliable in terms of tactile sensations.

MJX BUGS 3 competition

Fuselage design for an amateur. On the frontal part, eyes with an evil squint are displayed. In the bow is located, without exaggeration, a powerful LED. In general, there is nothing to complain about, everything is concise and simple and in demonstrative quality.

Motors

The MJX BUGS 3 quadcopter is equipped with 1800kv MT1806 brushless motors. The manufacturer characterizes them as the most economical and efficient among the same type of B / C motors. Each motor provides 230 grams of thrust. For a drone with such motors, flying with an action camera is like flying with a “piece of pie”, nothing more.

MJX BUGS 3motor

MJX Toys is the first to implement speed controllers (ESC) with automatic jamming protection in a budget drone, thereby eliminating motor burnout. For example at the moment of crash.

Note that BUGS 3 regulators support the use of 3S batteries.

suspension

As mentioned above, the kit comes with an axleless suspension with the possibility of manual vertical adjustment. Adapted for the installation of GoPro format cameras. The distance from the ground to the gimbal with the camera is 80mm. The camera is purchased separately.

MJX BUGS 3 gimble

The suspension completely lacks vibration dampers, this fact usually leads to the appearance of “jelly” in the frame. But surprisingly, her presence was not significant, especially at the moment of hovering, which once again indicates a properly tuned quad.

Food

The BUGS 3 drone is equipped with a not bad two-cell (2S) lithium-polymer battery (LiPo) with a capacity of 1800mAh with a discharge current of 25C and an XT30 connector. The battery is enclosed in a kind of box. According to the specification, it provides a continuous flight time of up to 19 minutes.

MJX BUGS 3 battery

*Stock battery dimensions: 114 x 35 x 20mm.

Control

The kit includes standard equipment for budget quads, operating at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Its distinguishing feature is the function of intelligent remote control, the work of which is to notify the pilot of either a low battery charge or that the distance is close to the maximum distance. The equipment is powered by 4 AA batteries. Removal distance according to specification 300-500 meters.

Test Drive

In the test, the MJX BUGS 3 without gimbal and landing legs showed distinctive flight characteristics already on a stock 2S battery. Both spending modes are set up very well. The performance of the 6-axis gyroscope is without exaggeration excellent, it is a pleasure to fly the drone. With such dynamics, you immediately start thinking about the “Acro-mode”, which, unfortunately, is not here.

With a camera and legs, the drone is less dynamic, but this does not prevent it from easily executing 360° flips with almost no dips, which indicates a good margin in traction.

MJX BUGS 3. Budget super drone on B/C motors

Flight time

In practice, flight time on a drain battery, max. expenses and the camera was – 8 minutes. In this case, the manufacturer should not be strongly criticized, it is unlikely that he was so cunning. If you remove the landing supports, the suspension, change the maximum costs to the minimum ones, install a 3S battery, then the time declared by the manufacturer is quite realizable.

It is worth noting the fact that the battery that comes with the drone comes in a fully charged state! This fact adversely affects the performance of the battery.

Removal distance

The quad flies freely at 300 meters and even more, which once again confirms the honesty of the manufacturer in the data provided in the specification. The feedback function of the drone with the equipment works great at low voltage and critical distance (short beeps of the equipment + flashing of the drone’s backlight = low battery; Long beep. signal = flew far away or strong interference in the flight site).

Access to the drone’s internals is easier than ever. To do this, remove the upper part of the fuselage from the latches and in front of you is the “heart” of BUGS 3.

MJX BUGS 3. Budget super drone on B/C motors

Let’s note the brightness of the drone’s LED light, it is really “Super bright LED light”. It is clearly visible even in bright sunlight at a sufficiently large distance. This fact clearly separates the front and rear of the drone, allowing the pilot to quickly navigate at a distance.

Price

On various Internet trading platforms, the average price for the MJX BUGS 3 drone is $150.

Additional accessories are available, but not all:

  1. FHD sport camera (C4000 1080P) – $27
  2. Panoramic camera 360° (C4022) – $88
  3. wifi fpv camera (С4020) — 75$
  4. 5.8GHz FPV camera (C5820) – $82

A very pleasant surprise from Meijiaxin Toys. Without exaggeration, this is the best deal for $120 today. We would not recommend the MJX Bugs3 as the first drone, but it will be quite appreciated by users for whom the potential of collector UAVs is no longer enough. The Bugs3 quad is absolutely worth the money spent and will no doubt be a long-term purchase, especially if the drone is retrofitted with an FPV kit. Age limit 14+.

Motors

MJX Bugs 8 is equipped with 1806 1800KV brushless motors. They work in tandem with 2-bladed 155mm rotors. The body of the motors is made of plastic, which made it possible to reduce weight, increase speed and flight time. In practice, the potential of the power plant is more than enough, the thrust reserve allows you to install an additional GoPro format camera on board the drone.

MJX Bugs 8. The best choice for the first FPV flight with b/c motors

Camera

The developer offers two options for FPV cameras for this drone: C5820 and C5830. The main purpose is to ensure high-quality flight in first-person mode. Both work in conjunction with an 8-channel 5.8GHz video transmitter with a power of 500mW, have a manually adjustable tilt angle, and a built-in DVR that allows you to record photo / video on a microSD card. Photo quality: 2MP; Video: 1280×720p. Video format: AVI. Max. video transmission distance is 500 meters.

MJX Bugs 8. The best choice for the first FPV flight with b/c motors

The main difference is the C5830 lens. As a result of modernization, he received 6 optical elements and a viewing angle of 90 °. In practice, in the FPV camera mode, their potential is quite enough.

FPV Monitor

Food

The Bugs 8 quadcopter is equipped with a 2-cell (2S/7.4V) 1300mAh lithium polymer battery with a peak discharge of 25C, an XT30 connector and a balanced cable. The battery is placed in a kind of plastic box. Provides max. flight time – 12 minutes. In practice, this time is generally true, the version with the camera fits in 10-12 minutes.

MJX Bugs 8. The best choice for the first FPV flight with b/c motors

Without a camera, the flight time increases by an average of 2 minutes.

Control

Drone control is implemented using classic Bugs series control equipment operating at a frequency of 2.4GHz. Power is supplied by four AA batteries (sold separately). According to the specification, it provides a removal distance of up to 500 meters.

MJX Bugs 8. The best choice for the first FPV flight with b/c motors

In February 2018, the developer offered the consumer an advanced version – BUGS 8 Pro. Features include 3-bladed rotors (red), 2204 1800KV B/C motors, Angel/Acro flight modes, 3S 1300mAh battery and redesigned control gear. But, despite the advantages of new items for all time, the model has received less consumer recognition.

Recommendations and remarks

  • In order to extend battery life and reduce charging time, it is recommended to stop using the bundled charger and replace it with a more technologically advanced one, such as iMax B6 or an equivalent.
  • The user has two speed modes “Low / High”. By default, the mode is always set to “High”. Even if the last flight was in Low mode, turning the aircraft off and on again will return to High mode.
  • After the next flight, before disconnecting the battery, you must make sure that the video mode is stopped, otherwise the recorded video will be damaged.
  • Both the drone and the control equipment are equipped with an audible alarm warning the pilot of a low battery level. After it works, the pilot has about 3 minutes to land the drone. The motors are then turned off.

The quality of the video stream deserves respect, the flight from the first person only adds to the pleasure of a dynamic flight. It will show itself to the maximum in the top configuration. Beginners will fully appreciate for whom the potential of collector quadrics and FPV over Wi-Fi is not enough. It will serve as a good simulator for getting the first experience on the C/C motors in the flight mode from the first person.

The pilot has two flight modes at his disposal:

  1. Angel – mode for beginners. The 6-axis gyroscope 100% controls the horizontal position of the drone, dynamism and tilt angles are minimal. The mode is suitable for beginners.
  2. Acro – electronic stabilization is disabled, tilt angles are maximum. Unleashes the full flight potential of the drone. The mode is suitable for advanced users.

The change of modes is carried out by a switch on the control equipment before turning on the remote control and the drone. Launching in Acro mode is accompanied by a pronounced audible drone alarm.

Food

The Bugs 3 Mini is powered by a 2-can (2S/7.4V) lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 850mAh 45C, made in a kind of box like in premium UAVs. According to the specification, it provides a flight duration of about 10 minutes. In practice, without an FPV camera with a mixed style of piloting, this time was 5 minutes 35 seconds. Charges with the included USB charger in 180 minutes.

MJX Bugs 3. Smaller version with Acro mode

B3 Mini inherited the function of feedback from the drone to the equipment in case of low voltage and critical distance (short beeps of the equipment + flashing of the drone backlight = low battery; Long beep = far away or strong interference in the flight site).

Control

The quadrocopter is controlled by a 4-channel control equipment operating at a frequency of 2.4GHz. Powered by 4 × AA (purchased separately). Provides max. removal distance – 500 meters.

MJX Bugs 3. Smaller version with Acro mode

*Remote control in combination with FPV monitor.

Antennas on control equipment are decorative. The antenna itself is stowed inside the case, and in the future it will be better to move it outside. Such an upgrade will significantly improve the quality of communication.

Price

The MJX Bugs 3 Mini quadrocopter is successfully sold through various Internet trading platforms at a price of $ 99 – $ 160 (depending on configuration).

Recommendations and remarks

  • Before installing the battery for the first time, do not forget to remove the safety plug from the contact group in the drone’s battery compartment.
  • The C5810 FPV Camera is only suitable for first look. In the future, we recommend replacing it with a more technological one (Turbowing DVR CYCLOPS 3, AKK A5 and other analogues). A visual upgrade process can be found on YouTube. The end result will significantly prolong the enjoyment of owning the BUGS 3 Mini.
  • Eachine ROTG01 – the device allows you to display the image broadcast from the FPV drone on the screen of a smartphone / tablet (on Android).
  • It will be better to upgrade and stock power to a more productive one. The process, as in the case of the camera, is not difficult, although it requires the use of a soldering iron. As a power source, lithium-polymer batteries 7.4V 1300mAh 30C with a JST connector (dimensions: 69 × 30 × 16 mm) will be optimal
  • Regardless of the level of piloting experience, it is recommended to start the first flight of the B3 Mini exclusively at the minimum cost, especially in Acro mode. This approach will allow the user to go through the process of adaptation to control without serious crashes.
  • To force-pair the control equipment with the drone, you must:
  1. While holding down the “Start and stop motors” button, turn on the control panel.
  2. Then turn on the drone. The aircraft light will flash rapidly at first and then turn to a steady glow, indicating that the pairing process has been successfully completed.
  • Before the first flight, it is recommended to calibrate the gyroscope.

Calibration process:

  1. Turn on the drone and place it on a horizontal surface
  2. Turn on the remote control
  3. Bring both sticks to the lower right position and hold for about 2-3 seconds, paying attention to the drone’s backlight, it will start flashing. Wait for the backlight to change from blinking to solid. Calibration completed.
  4. If necessary, achieve accurate position holding by adjusting the offset (trimming) from the control panel.
  • If after the next crash you cannot find the crash site of the B3 Mini, turn off the control equipment and the drone will start beeping.

Motors

The Bugs 5W quadcopter is equipped with 1806 1500KV brushless motors working in tandem with four separate speed controllers that support the auto-brake function of the motors when locked, which contributes to safer operation. In practice, the power plant runs smoothly, there is enough power in abundance and allows the drone to confidently reach a horizontal flight speed of up to 60 km / h.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

As the developer assures, the two-bladed propellers of the drone are made taking into account aerodynamics and have an indicative balance, which allows the quadrocopter to easily perform the specified functions and receive clear images.

Camera

On board is an 8MP FHD Wi-Fi camera (MJX C5021) with a remotely adjustable tilt angle, built on a 1/3.06 inch CMOS-matrix coupled with a wide-angle lens consisting of 7 optical elements. Provides video recording in resolution: 1920 × 1080p at 30 fps; Photo: 8Mp. The camera is removable, suspended by means of an axleless suspension on dampers. In practice, the quality of shooting corresponds to the declared, the color reproduction of photos and videos is good. The balanced operation of the power plant deserves special respect, as evidenced by the complete absence of jelly and vibrations in the frame, despite the fact that only rubber dampers separate the gimbal from the drone. All footage is stored on a microSD memory card (sold separately), which is pre-installed in the camera’s built-in slot located on the back.

FPV

First-person flight for Bugs 5W implemented via Wi-Fi at a frequency of 5GHz. The video stream is broadcast in real time with optimal latency to a smartphone (IOS/Android) via the Bugs Go mobile app. The quality of the video stream is 720p. Declared max. video transmission distance is 300 meters. In practice, in an interference-free zone, this distance was 200-260 meters, which again corresponds to the developer’s specification.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

The interface of the mobile application “Bugs Go” in FPV mode.

It should be understood that the Bugs 5W FPV system is built on the simplest technologies and is designed exclusively for the initial acquaintance with first-person flight. Therefore, removal beyond the line of sight will be carried out at your own peril and risk.

Flight modes

Three flight modes are available to the user, which can be changed using 2-position switches located on the control equipment (remote control) under each of the sticks / joysticks. The switch under the left stick is responsible for changing the “Gesture/GPS” modes (position “A” – Gesture; position “B” – GPS); The switch under the right stick activates the “Headless” mode (position “A” – Headless off; position “B” – Headless on).

  1. Gesture — in this mode, the operation of the GPS module is excluded. Position Hold becomes inactive, but the barometer is active, which provides altitude hold. If the control sticks are released during the flight, the drone will hover, but will be prone to drift (especially in windy weather), which in turn will require direct participation from the pilot. Recommended for users who already have experience in flying a drone without using GPS.
  2. GPS – provides the drone with accurate position retention, even under the influence of external factors. Recommended for beginners.
  3. headless – in the process of learning to fly, it allows a novice user not to worry about where the quadcopter is in front and where is the back.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

Automatic modes

Four automatic flight and shooting modes are available:

  • Follow me (Follow me) – when the mode is activated, the drone focuses its attention on the smartphone paired with it. The mode allows you to automatically track the movement of the user and keep him in the center of the frame, shooting from a certain angle and at a given distance. Activation of the mode through the mobile application.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

  • Point of Interest — set a point of interest (building, object, position, etc.) around which the drone will make a circular flight at a given distance. By default, this distance is set to 10 meters. To change: “Setting” → “Flight Radius”. Activation of the mode through the mobile application.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

  • Waypoint Flight – this mode allows you to focus on the composition while the MJX B5W flies along the route set on the display of the paired smartphone. Activation of the mode through the mobile application.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

  • Return to Home (RTH/Return to Home) – provides automatic return of the drone to the take-off point: with a button on the remote control, automatically when communication with the remote control is lost, when the battery is low. Activation of the mode is possible both from the control equipment and through a mobile application.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

The quality of operation of each of the auto modes noticeably loses in precision accuracy and smoothness to premium UAV modes and, accordingly, is relevant only for the first acquaintance.

RTH Mode

The RTH/Return to Home mode for the Bugs 5W has received three versions:

  1. Smart RTH: Available if the satellite signal is stable (more than 7 satellites) and if the home point was recorded by the system during takeoff. Pressing the RTH button will return the drone to its takeoff point. During the execution of this mode, the user can correct the flight from the control equipment. To cancel the execution of the mode, just press the RTH button again.
  2. Fail safe return: Available if the satellite signal is stable (more than 7 satellites) and if the home point was recorded by the system during takeoff. The mode is automatically activated every time the aircraft loses communication with the control equipment for more than 6 seconds. You can cancel the execution of the mode immediately after the connection is restored by pressing the RTH button.
  3. Low voltage RTH: Activates when the drone’s battery is low. The lights on the rear arms of the aircraft flash slowly red, the LCD of the remote displays the “RX” icon, and a quick beep sounds:
  • If the B5W is over 100 meters high or over 300 meters away, the aircraft will automatically return to its take-off point.
  • If the B5W is more than 15 meters high or more than 15 meters away, the aircraft will automatically return to its take-off point.
  • If the B5W is less than 15 meters high or less than 15 meters away, the aircraft will automatically land.

Food

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

The drone is powered by two canned (2S / 7.4V) lithium-polymer (LiPo) batteries with a capacity of 1800mAh, with a discharge current of 25C. The battery is placed in a one-piece case, the role of the supply wires is played by the built-in connector. This approach provided additional protection for the power source, as well as the ability to quickly change the battery (without wires: inserted – removed). All for the sake of simplicity! Provides max. flight time – 15 minutes. In practice, this time was 11-12 minutes. The battery is charged with the included USB charger. Charging time is about three hours.

We attribute the lack of a power off button to the minuses of the MJX Bugs 5W. Turning the quadrocopter on and off is done by installing and removing the battery. Do not leave the battery in the drone after the end of flights!

Control

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

The drone is controlled by the included remote control, which can be found in the configurations of predecessor models. Convenient, 4-channel equipment, operates at an analog frequency of 2.4GHz. For MJX Bugs 5W comes with a smartphone holder. It has a built-in LCD-display which displays such information as: signal level; number of satellites; altitude/distance; indication of RTH/Headless modes; Photo/Video; remote control/drone battery charge; Remote control mode (Mode 1/2). Provides max. removal distance – 500 meters. Runs on four AA batteries.

Assignment of buttons and switches

The folding antennas on the control equipment are decorative. The antenna itself is placed inside the case, and in the future it will be better to bring it outside. Such an upgrade will significantly improve the quality of communication.

First start

In order to carry out the first flight, after removing from the box and charging the batteries, you must do the following:

Binding the quadcopter to the equipment

The procedure is carried out once.

Step 1: While holding down the “Unlock motors” button on the remote control (indicated by a red symbol in the form of a “lock”), turn on the remote control, it will emit two beeps, the indicator will start flashing. The remote control is ready to pair with the drone.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

Step 2: Turn on the quadcopter (by installing the battery in the drone), the drone will emit beeps, the backlight on the front beams will start flashing. The binding process is automatic. After the remote control emits a long beep, the indicator switches from flashing to permanently lit, and the “Signal Strength” icon appears on the LCD display of the remote control, the binding process is completed.

UAV initialization

It is carried out automatically.

After establishing a connection, the drone system proceeds to initialization. The illumination on the front and rear beams alternately flashes red, green and yellow. Make sure the quadcopter is on a level and stable surface (Important). The initialization procedure takes about 8 seconds. Initialization is completed after the remote controller beeps twice and the front and rear lights of the aircraft flash yellow alternately.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

Compass calibration

Important:

1. Compass calibration is performed only after the successful initialization of the UAV.
2. The compass is calibrated every time the battery is disconnected.
3. The calibration procedure is recommended to be carried out away from places with a strong magnetic field (parking lots, construction sites, metal structures, etc.), and keep keys, mobile phones, etc. away.

Calibration process:

Step 1: Horizontal Calibration

After the drone has successfully initialized, the lights on the front and rear beams of the aircraft flash yellow alternately. Keeping the copter in a horizontal position, begin to rotate it around its axis (about 3 turns). The end of the horizontal compass calibration will be indicated by the front and rear lights of the aircraft, which will change from a flashing yellow light to an alternating flashing green light.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

Step 2: Vertical calibration

Keeping the copter in a vertical position with the camera up, start rotating it around its axis (about 3 revolutions). The procedure is considered completed after the backlight of the copter switches from flashing to permanently on. You can take off.

MJX Bugs 5W: for maximalist beginners

Gyro calibration

Made by a developer.

The gyroscope calibration procedure is carried out only if the aircraft cannot exit the initialization procedure. In this case, after the aircraft and equipment communicate, place the aircraft on a level surface (Important). At the same time, move both control sticks/joysticks to the far left bottom corner, the aircraft light will flash rapidly and then change to a steady glow, indicating the completion of the calibration.

Recommendations and remarks

  • Be sure to read the user manual before using the product.
  • To charge the battery from a 220V network, the developer recommends using 5V (1-2A) power supplies. Charging the battery from a computer is not recommended.
  • Before starting charging after the next flight, it is necessary that the battery cools down. Battery charging should only be carried out in the presence of adults.
  • Before flying, make sure that the drone battery is installed correctly, otherwise even a short power outage may affect the flight safety.
  • The drone’s Wi-Fi camera works exclusively with the “Bugs Go” mobile app.
  • Before landing, it is recommended to bring the camera to a horizontal position.
  • For uninterrupted and correct operation of the equipment (remote control) it is not allowed to mix old and new batteries, or alkaline with ordinary or rechargeable batteries.
  • To improve the communication quality of the control equipment (an increase in the distance of up to 1000 meters), it is recommended to bring the antenna laid inside the console to the outside and make it external.
  • To improve the quality of the transmitted video signal (an increase in the FPV distance of up to 500-600 meters), it is enough to carry out a simple and inexpensive upgrade.
  • There are two ways to start and stop the motors:

launch

  1. “Unlock motors” button (indicated by a red “lock” symbol) – a short press will unlock the drone and start the propulsion unit in idle mode.
  2. Stick/Joystick controls – at the same time, move the left stick / joystick control to the bottom right corner, and the right stick to the bottom left corner.

Stop

  1. “Unlock motors” button (indicated by a red symbol in the form of a “lock”) – long press (hold for 3 seconds) stops the motors and locks the aircraft.
  2. Stick/Joystick controls – after the drone lands, move the “Gas / Throttle” stick to the lowest position “0” and hold for 3 seconds, the motors will stop, the drone will be blocked.
  • Please note that the aircraft does not fly around obstacles during the Return to Home/RTH mode.
  • The aircraft will not return to the takeoff location if the GPS signal is weak (less than 7 satellites). If there is no satellite signal between the drone and the remote control at the moment of loss of connection, after 6 seconds the copter will not fly to the take-off site, but will make a soft landing with subsequent blocking of the motors.
  • If the RTH mode is executed due to low battery voltage, then you cannot switch to manual mode by pressing the RTH button.
