JJRC H8C quadcopter review

The JJRC H8C quadcopter was released by JJRC Toy in the fall of 2014 and immediately managed to make a splash among UAV enthusiasts. He replaced the quadrocopter of the same company — JJRC H5C. JJRC H8C is considered a full-fledged replacement for the well-known Syma X5C model, or rather its Chinese clone. Ease of use, durability, readiness to fly out of the box (RTF), as well as its price, predetermined its purpose as an introductory simulator for practicing UAV skills before buying something better and more expensive.

Motors

The JJRC H8C quadcopter is equipped with 8.5 × 20mm brushed motors, which are indicatively powerful for this niche of drones, with torque transmission through the gear. To get the first experience, their potential is more than enough.

The potential of the JJRC H8C motors allows you to install a payload weighing up to 80 grams on a quadrocopter, which is not an achievable result for the Syma X5c analogue.

The main disadvantage of these motors is a small working resource of about 30–35 sorties. Therefore, when buying a quadrocopter, we recommend that you additionally purchase 2–3 spare sets of motors.

flight properties

In the test, the JJRC H8C quadcopter showed distinctive dynamics. Stable in management. There are 4 cost options: 25/50/75/100%. It is recommended to start the first flight with 25% expenses. With a stock camera, flips work without drawdowns.

For the first time, the Headless mode will come in handy, which turns off the orientation of the quadcopter, allowing the novice user to focus solely on control.

Battery

The JJRC H8C quadcopter is equipped with a two-can (2S) lithium polymer battery 7.4V 500mAh LiPo, powerful for this UAV niche. The battery provides a flight of about 8 minutes. It will take ≈ 110 minutes to charge the battery. Charges with the included charger.

Camera

Depending on the configuration, the JJRC H8C quadcopter can be equipped with 0.3MP and 2MP cameras. The picture quality is below average. The camera is controlled from the drone control equipment. When buying, it is better to abandon stock cameras and buy more expensive options, such as Mobius MINI or Firefly Q6. Such an upgrade will significantly improve the quality of shooting and, in general, diversify the operation of the drone.

Control equipment

The JJRC H8C quadcopter comes with a 4‑channel remote control operating at a frequency of 2.4GHz. Provides removal of the quad at a distance of up to 300 meters (in field conditions). In a metropolis, this distance will be no more than 100 meters. Power is supplied by 4 batteries (AA × 1.5V).

  • Quality
  • Strength
  • 6 axis gyroscope
  • Controllability
  • headless mode
  • Flips

Minuses

  • Small resource of motors
  • Camera shooting quality
  • Not all active buttons are duplicated on the LCD screen of the remote control
  • Noisy
  • There is a specific battery (do not put another one)

If you do not take stock cameras into account, then the JJRC H8C quadcopter is quite the best option for getting the first experience in piloting a UAV. Reliable, ready to endure the mistakes inherent in beginners. Retrofitting with a better camera will expand the functionality of the quad and prolong the receipt of positive emotions. Age limit 14+.
