Drones for air analysis
For centuries, since the time when alchemists were engaged in research, the analysis of the composition of the air was carried out in laboratories. Such a need was associated with the use of special equipment, for example, ovens, special chemical utensils, and subsequently measuring instruments, with the use of sometimes not harmless chemicals, which required at least good ventilation; with the complexity, complexity and duration of the processes of separation of complex substances and mixtures.
Quite often, these factors operate in our time, so millions of chemical analyzes are carried out in special analytical laboratories, only now not only chemical, but also biological and physical. Each research institute of the chemical, metallurgical or geological direction has its own analytical laboratories. The same can be said about any manufacturing and industrial enterprise. These laboratories also have a lot of expensive and sophisticated equipment.
Recently, the situation has been changing. One of the most important trends in the development of analytical chemistry, which appears on the basis of the urgent needs of practice, is gradually moving chemical analysis from laboratories directly to the location of the analyzed objects. Analysis outside of laboratories is already being done on a global scale in quite a few industries, in particular: in the detection of natural gas or methane leaks, in the determination of the presence of carbon and hydrocarbons in automobile exhaust, in the analysis of the composition of the air in streets and work areas, etc. Various tools are used for in situ analysis. In most cases, drones are used for such analysis. In fact, these are the same laboratory instruments, only more resistant to vibration, dust, and power outages.
From the drone, it is possible to analyze the composition of the air, including:
- Radiation Contamination Analysis
- Analysis of chemical air pollution
- Analysis of air pollution by enterprises
- Other air analysis
With the help of quadrocopters, various analyzes are carried out, including: analysis of contamination by radioactive radiation; analysis of chemical air pollution; analysis of air pollution by enterprises. The presence of radon in the air can cause cancer, for this reason the measurement of radon is a priority. Radon cannot be detected without special equipment.
The complex of their measurements, along with indications of the level of gamma radiation, also includes diagnostics of the volumetric activity of radon in the air.
The results obtained are compared with the current sanitary and hygienic standards. Based on the results of measuring the level of radiation and studying the presence of radon in the air, a conclusion is drawn up that describes the radioecological state of the object under study.
Air composition analysis outside the laboratory with a drone has many advantages. Saves money and time for the delivery of the obtained samples to the laboratory for research. On-site analysis usually does not require highly skilled performers, as simpler analysis tools are used. But the main advantage of such a study is that it is often impossible or pointless to perform analysis in a stationary laboratory, for example, in situations where the forms of existence of individual components are changeable.
Analysis of the air composition from an unmanned robot is actually performed in real time; this makes it possible to immediately begin to eliminate the sources or consequences of incidents, without waiting for the end of the study in the laboratory and the receipt of relevant laboratory data.
It is obvious that the role of a stationary laboratory for air composition analysis should decrease, while the importance of using UAVs should increase. It should be noted that the achievements of analytical instrumentation, analytical chemistry and related industries provide opportunities for air composition analysis using a drone. Such aircraft are equipped with all the necessary equipment for high-precision analysis of air composition.
