Airpeak’s next field test
We continue to follow the development of the drone project from Sony. Recently, the company quietly released a new video that shows the test work of the upcoming Airpeak drone novelty. Field tests are known to have been conducted over the remote Japanese island of Iriomote in Okinawa. The video shows the drone in action, equipped with both the top Sony Alpha 7S Mark III full-frame camera and the all-new FX3 Cinema Line full-frame camera, in tandem with the recently introduced 14mm f/1.8 G‑Master large aperture ultra-wide-angle discrete lens.
Sony has been relatively slow to release news and updates since it officially unveiled the system in January. The latest news update was an impressive wind resistance test, which showed that their drone is able to maintain a stable fixed position with a full chamber load in wind speeds of about 20 m/s.
New field trials
The video above is the most recent field test conducted by the Airpeak team. Here is how the developer commented on this event: “We continued to field test Airpeak in various environments, and in this edition we would like to share videos of field tests on Iriomote Island in Okinawa. The footage was recorded using the recently announced Alpha E‑mount FE14mm F1.8GM 35mm lens. The advantage of the ultra-wide lens allowed us to capture the dynamic natural landscape of Iriomote Island.”
Even though the developer only mentions the new lens, the video above shows high quality footage that appears to have been taken with two of the top full-frame cameras, the Alpha 7S Mark III and the FX3 Cinema Line, as both are shown in a short film at some point. two-minute clip in tandem with the latest FE 14mm f/1.8 GM ultra-wide-angle, large-aperture lens.
