Bellwether Volar eVTOL: Semi-Scale Aircraft Successfully Passes First Flight Tests

Volar eVTOL

Another aerial solution, which first became known two months ago, has already managed to attract close attention of all who breathe unevenly to portable air vehicles designed to increase human mobility in urban conditions, which, judging by the rapid development of similar projects (Ehang 216; Jetson One; Speeder; SkyDrive SD-03 eVTOL; Cyclogyro; CopterPack and others) will soon become commonplace in all major metropolitan areas.

Recently, the British company Bellwether Industries published footage of the first flight test of a half-scale prototype of its latest Volar eVTOL aircraft. Flight tests took place in Dubai in November 2021, where Volar flew at a height of 4 meters at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. Bellwether said the flight test is the start of a series of prototype development projects. The company is currently working on the next iteration of the Volar eVTOL and is building partnerships.

Objective of the project

Bellwether’s goal is to develop a private urban aircraft with a hidden power plant. The eVTOL developer said the final full-scale model will be capable of carrying four to five people, flying at altitudes of up to 915 meters and reaching speeds of up to 220 km/h.

The release of the flight test videos completes the company’s announcement last month that it has completed a year of indoor tethered flying and conducted its first flight test in Dubai. The company’s eVTOL design has attracted significant public attention in a short period of time, making the Bellwether project one of the most talked about in 2021.

About the developer

Bellwether Industries is a people-centric UAM company founded in London in January 2019. The main goal of the developer is to provide the most interoperable urban air mobility (UAM; Urban Air Mobility) solution for intra-city travel with a safe, efficient and comfortable experience. Bellwether Industries believes that people flying through the sky are inevitable in the next 10 years. And that is why they set about creating the Volar eVTOL so that anyone can fly at any time and anywhere to anywhere in the metropolis.

Bellwether Industries’ ultimate goal is to create an entirely new 3D lifestyle and lead the world towards more inclusive urban mobility. The original Bellwether team started out in 2014. It all started with the passion of the founders for the interaction between transport and cities. The first concept launched by the founders was the Gazelle hovercraft, which went on to become a great success and lead the team to the next stage, Bellwether Industries.
