Release
On February 18, Drone Champions League (DCL), the world-famous drone racing league, released its first multiplatform FPV racing simulator with multiplayer, DCL-The Game. The release was marked by the launch of the first pilot-controlled racing drone on board, which was brought to life in collaboration with Flite Test during the creation of the simulator. “The idea is to race manned drones in the future, and you can start learning to fly them today through the DCL simulator — The Game,” the DCL developers elaborate.
The first to take the pilot’s seat in the cockpit of a racing drone was the author of the idea and the founder of DCL, as well as an aerobatics pilot, bachelor of space and aviation engineering of Austrian origin — Herbert Weirather. The launch site is Vrsar airport in Croatia. So far, for safety reasons, flying with a person on board consisted only of hovering, and piloting was carried out from the ground through control equipment, by DCL champion Mirko Cesena. A more aggressive flight was already implemented with a dummy.
About the drone
Almost nothing is known about the racing drone itself. It is mentioned that the base of the drone is fully carbon fiber, the power plant consists of six coaxial rotors (12 brushless motors / 2 motors per beam), and the power is supplied by 24 batteries.

About the simulator
DCL — The Game is perfect for all drone racing fans, as well as for casual gamers who love high-speed flight simulators. The capabilities of the simulator will allow advanced pilots to hone and develop piloting skills, or prepare for real racing events, and beginners to take the first step into the world of sports of the future to get acquainted with the physics of control without fear of crashing a real drone due to lack of experience.
Note that the announced DCL simulator, as in the case of the already existing professional simulator from the DRL league, gives players the chance to become the reigning Drone Prix champion and compete with professionals in real life. To make the dream come true, players need to sign up for the draft and play DCL — The Game, set the best time, and ultimately compete against the best of the best for a place on the DCL team.
