EHang Hints at New Electric Air Taxi With 400+ Km Range

Chi­nese devel­op­er of autonomous air­craft (AAV) EHang Hold­ings Lim­it­ed on Twit­ter hint­ed at the immi­nent announce­ment of a new elec­tric air taxi mod­el with a much greater range than the cur­rent two-seat Ehang 216. Rumor has it that the new eVTOL will have a cruis­ing range of at least 386 km . The oth­er day, a schemat­ic image of what the new eVTOL could be appeared on Chi­nese social net­works:

“EHang has been devel­op­ing long-range elec­tric ver­ti­cal take­off and land­ing (eVTOL) air­craft for many years. In the next few months, we are going to test-flight this new prod­uct, which will have many new break­through fea­tures. We’ll post more infor­ma­tion lat­er.” EHang (@ehang) March 9, 2021.

EHang shares rise

Amid these rumors, EHang’s share of the US NASDAQ rose by more than 20%. Investors seemed to rejoice in the rumors and tweets after EHang’s stock crashed a few weeks ago fol­low­ing a US invest­ment fir­m’s report.

It is worth not­ing that EHang is the main part­ner of sev­er­al Euro­pean projects in the field of UAM (Urban Air Mobil­i­ty). If EHang actu­al­ly suc­ceeds in real­iz­ing an elec­tric air taxi with a range of 400+ km, it will be a big step for­ward for urban air mobil­i­ty con­cepts. Which is not par­tic­u­lar­ly doubt­ful.
