Fly­ing Eye by 360 Designs is the world’s first drone capa­ble of trans­mit­ting real-time 6K video up to a dis­tance of 8 kilo­me­ters. The broad­cast is con­duct­ed with a 360-degree view on VR glass­es, and has a slight delay — less than 1 sec­ond.

Breeze Video Streaming Protocol

To real­ize these pos­si­bil­i­ties, 360 Designs had to devel­op its own video stream­ing pro­to­col called Breeze. Thanks to this func­tion­al­i­ty, the Fly­ing Eye drone can broad­cast panoram­ic videos from almost any­where in the world. You can orga­nize broad­casts to social net­works (YouTube, Face­Book) of large-scale events, there­by cre­at­ing the effect of pres­ence. Thanks to the 360-degree view and VR glass­es, you are like a bird hov­er­ing over what is hap­pen­ing.

Accord­ing to gen. direc­tor of 360 Designs, they were inspired to cre­ate Fly­ing Eye by the desire to make shoot­ing live con­certs in VR for­mat acces­si­ble so that peo­ple would look at what was hap­pen­ing from a dif­fer­ent angle. At the same time, one per­son can con­trol the drone.

The basis of the Fly­ing Eye is the DJI Matrice 600 drone equipped with:

• Cam­era sta­bi­liza­tion sys­tem
• Breeze video trans­mis­sion tech­nol­o­gy includ­ing ground receiv­ing sta­tion.
• VR Mini Eye 3 Cam­era
