What Is DJI Government Edition?

Introducing DJI Government Edition, a new all-in-one drone solution designed specifically for use in high security situations by government agencies around the world. While DJI customers have always had complete control over how the data they generate with drones is collected, stored, and shared, the unique architecture of the Government Edition ensures that drone data, including photos and videos captured in flight, will never be shared with third parties, including DJI. This architecture provides the organization with strict control over the data received, reduces the risks of transferring data to third parties.

DJI Government Edition empowers government agencies and businesses around the world to take advantage of DJI’s civilian drone technology for use cases such as agricultural analysis and infrastructure inspections, public land management, and rapid response to natural disasters. DJI developed the solution to meet the needs of the United States Department of the Interior, the United States Air Services Administration, which completed more than 10,000 drone flights in 2018 alone. Government drones have been used in more than 1,500 of these missions, and their safety has been confirmed through numerous audits conducted by DOI’s external and internal partners.

The government drone solution is based on advanced DJI drone equipment and is managed by embedded software and server software in a unique architecture that supports the highest data security requirements:

• No Data Transmission (No Data Transfer) – Always-On Local Data Mode in the DJI Pilot User App prevents data from the mobile app from being transmitted over the Internet to third parties or DJI.
• Firmware Update Reviews (Control of firmware updates). Government agency aviation and IT departments can control firmware updates before applying them to their fleets and have complete control over how they check and when to install them on DJI drones.
• Restricted Hardware Pairing (Limited Hardware Pairing) – Drones and controllers running Government Edition can only be paired with each other and are not compatible with other DJI products, preventing the use of unsafe equipment and unauthorized third-party applications.
