Briefly about the creation of Mavic 3
To get the best shots, you need to take dozens of images from different angles. And in order to realize this, we simply need time. So in order to get more flight time, DJI had to completely change the structure of the new drone. Inspired by nature and the principles of flight, they increased the efficiency of the propulsion system, redesigned the gimbal, arms and main body to ultimately improve the way the M3 moves in the air. As a result, they were able to reduce the drag coefficient by 35% compared to the previous generation of UAVs. That is why Mavic 3 turned out to be more accurate and more mobile than its predecessors.
The developer notes that it took a lot of effort to redesign every millimeter of the M3 in order to achieve a smoother flight from it. However, this is only a small part of what is inside the new drone. The drone has become not just more powerful, but an order of magnitude more powerful. A lot of work has been done with mass, volume and power consumption. The space for the battery has been increased, thanks to which the drone is now able to fly up to 30 kilometers on a single charge. And its maximum flight time has increased to a record 46 minutes among household UAVs, which is 15 minutes longer than the flight time of the Mavic 2. By the way, the battery now does not need to be pulled out of the drone to charge, but simply connect the cable from the charger directly to the drone.
The system for detecting and flying around obstacles has been greatly redesigned, which has now completely got rid of blind spots, and the sensor recognition range has increased from 20 to 200 meters, which allows the car to change the route trajectory much earlier and move safely among obstacles. The APAS pilot assistance system was improved to the fifth generation, which allowed the drone system to see and recognize obstacles in all directions (forward, backward, to the sides, down), providing a 360-degree visualization of the surrounding world at the output.
DJI engineers have also worked on the Active Track object tracking function, updating its performance to the fifth generation. Now it provides more natural tracking of objects. For example, when a drone temporarily loses sight of a pursued object, it does not stop, but continues following until it finds it again.
Improving the visualization system of the surrounding world has improved the operation of the automatic return home mode. If earlier the drone had to rise to a predetermined altitude and return to the take-off point when the connection was lost, now the mode uses more intelligent and efficient routes with reduced power consumption, scanning the environment in real time during the flight. After activating the new Smart RTH mode, the aircraft will measure the current wind speed and calculate the required power based on the wind speed and distance, thus ensuring the most economical residual charge consumption.
Despite the ideality of DJI O3 (OcuSync 3.0) top-end digital video transmission technology, the engineers decided to add reliability to it and finalized it to the DJI O3 + level, raising the bar for maximum range to an incredible 15 kilometers for household UAVs. But that’s not all. To operate the drone in the most difficult environment, it can be equipped with a 4G Cellular Transmission Dongle, which allows you to safely fly the drone outside the line of sight.

As noted above, the task of developing a new camera for the Mavic 3, DJI once again entrusted to the best of the best – the company Victor Hasselblad AB. The renowned Swedish developer has designed and built the Hasselblad L2D-20c 5K aerial camera specifically for the new M3, integrating a professional 4/3 format CMOS sensor into an incredibly compact space. Thanks to Hasselblad’s strict standards in both hardware performance and software algorithms, the output has taken the image quality of the new machine to a whole new level.

The larger sensor not only provides the Mavic 3 with higher resolution and dynamic range, but also reduces noise more effectively in low light conditions.

The 4/3 CMOS sensor has a high dynamic range of 12.8 stops to preserve more detail in highlights and shadows.
Adjustable aperture
The aperture is adjustable according to the needs of different scenes. In low light, the f/2.8 aperture lets in more light; under sufficient light, the aperture can be adjusted to slow down the shutter speed to record smoother and more natural footage.

- Excellence Without Presets: Sophisticated color presets have never been part of the Hasselblad philosophy, nor are they on the Mavic 3. Starting at the pixel level of sensors, Hasselblad developed the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS), a new perspective for working with diverse scenes by easily reproducing accurate and natural colors.
- Pixel calibration for maximum image quality: To ensure that the Mavic 3 reproduces true-to-life colors just like other Hasselblad cameras, the L2D-20c lens uses the same exacting standards, and every pixel on the sensor is calibrated using the built-in HNCS.
