Autel EVO Nano+
Portable and lightweight
The EVO Nano and Nano+ drones weigh about the same weight as a smartphone and fit almost anywhere from the side pocket of a backpack to the palm of your hand. According to the specification, the flight weight of the EVO Nano and Nano+ drones is 249 grams, which, among other things, exempts the user from the UAV registration / registration procedure in some countries. Note! Recently, in the World, the weight threshold of consumer UAVs has been reduced from 250 grams to 150 grams, respectively, all UAVs weighing more than 150 grams are subject to accounting. You can learn more about this in our separate review.
Color
Unlike DJI, Autel Robotics engineers offer their customers the EVO Nano and Nano + drone in four colors: orange, gray, red and white. As they say, a trifle, but nice.
Versions
The developer offers the EVO Nano series drone in two versions: “EVO Nano” and “EVO Nano+”. The main and only difference is their chamber system.
Camera
EVO Nano
For photo/video shooting of the EVO Nano drone, a 48MP 4K HDR camera built on a 1/2‑inch CMOS matrix with a pixel size of 1.6 × 1.6 μm (Bin2) is responsible; with built-in RYYB color filter array; FOV: 84° aperture: f/2.8; equiv. focal length: 24 mm. An ultra-precise 3‑axis mechanical gimbal is responsible for image stabilization.
Max. video quality: 4K HDR 3840 × 2160 at 30 fps in MP4/MOV (8‑bit) formats. Max. photo quality: 48MP 8000 × 6000 (4:3) in JPG (8‑bit) / DNG (10-bit) / JPG+DNG formats.
Shooting quality
An example of the video quality of the EVO Nano drone (without post-processing):
EVO Nano+
A more advanced video system is responsible for photo / video shooting of the EVO Nano + drone, which is based on a 50MP 4K HDR camera built on a 1 / 1.28-inch CMOS matrix with a pixel size of 2.44 × 2.44 μm (Bin2); with built-in RYYB color filter array; FOV: 85°; aperture: f/1.9; equiv. focal length: 23mm; advanced autofocus system PDAF + CDAF. An ultra-precise 3‑axis mechanical gimbal is responsible for image stabilization.
Max. video quality: 4K HDR 3840 × 2160 at 30 fps in MP4/MOV (8‑bit) formats. Max. photo quality: 50MP 8192 × 6144 (4:3) in JPG (8‑bit) / DNG (10-bit) / JPG+DNG formats.
Shooting quality
An example of the quality of shooting drone EVO Nano + (without post-processing):
digital zoom
The video system of both versions of the drone has 16x digital zoom in its arsenal. It is not worth placing high hopes on it, since in practice zooming without loss in quality is provided within a 2‑fold increase, which is generally the norm for UAVs in their niche.
EVO Nano+ zoom example
Defog Mode
A new feature affecting the automatic adjustment of the video system settings for shooting in difficult environmental conditions. With Defog mode active, whether you’re flying over a foggy hilltop at dawn or hovering at the base of a waterfall, the drone’s system will automatically adjust the camera settings so your footage looks crisp and clear.
FPV
To ensure confident piloting of the drone in FPV mode, the developer equipped it with its top digital Autel SkyLink video streaming system, which provides exemplary noise immunity, a signal transmission range of up to 10 km and a maximum video link quality of 2.7K at 30 fps. However, it is worth noting here that in fact, the FPV flight range in the broadcast quality of the 2.7K video stream is less than 1 km, while the SkyLink digital system provides the maximum potential only in 1080P quality at 30 fps, as the developer explains in the product specification.
Nevertheless, a 2.7K or FHD video stream is very cool, because it’s not even about the range, but about the quality of the visualization of a heterogeneous environment, where one unnoticed high-voltage wire or branch can cause the loss of an expensive drone.
Max. flight range EVO Nano+
3‑way imaging system
Autel EVO Nano (+) became the first drone in the lightweight niche of UAVs (up to 250 grams) to receive a powerful binocular visualization system of the surrounding world, which, coupled with an advanced AI algorithm, allows not only to recognize obstacles in front, behind and below the drone, but also to plot safe routes in advance flight. With the advent of this system, another advanced technology, Dynamic Track 2.1, also entered the arsenal of both versions, which allows the copter to automatically track the objects selected for shooting.
Dynamic Track 2.1
One of the most striking and desirable features of both versions is the top patented Dynamic Track 2.1 ™ automatic object tracking system, which allows using AI to track objects selected for shooting even at high speeds, as well as to create real-time trajectories around encountered obstacles in advance.
According to the information on the official website, DT2.1 will be available later with the arrival of the next firmware update. Based on the exemplary performance of the previous DT 2.0 system, it is safe to say that waiting for the arrival of more advanced technology will undoubtedly justify its exponential result in practice.
Auto flight and shooting modes
The ability to create spectacular professional-level shots in one tap is the hallmark of any high-tech drone. Autel Robotics engineers offer the user four branded auto-flight and QuickShots shooting modes, which will allow the user of any skill level to capture the best moments of life as cinema professionals do. You can emphasize the epic nature of events by applying filters and music.

Today, this is the only lightweight solution that can compete with the bestseller of our hobby in the occupied niche of the UAV DJI Mini 2, primarily outperforming the latter with the presence of a 3‑way sensor system for recognizing and avoiding obstacles and an automatic object tracking mode, where it is worth noting right away that if you are today If you buy an EVO Nano series drone, you will not be able to fully use its sensor system and some auto flight and shooting modes, as Autel engineers are currently optimizing these functions. Otherwise, both competitors (EVO Nano (+) and DJI Mini 2) are unique ultra-light solutions with relatively similar potential, designed for entry-level aerial photo / video shooting.
The main advantages of both versions include an advanced 4K video system built on high-performance components using top technologies, including a larger matrix with a built-in array of Bayer color filters, which allows for improved shooting quality at the output, including in low light conditions. We also note the demonstrative long-range operation of the Autel SkyLink digital video transmission system.
The main disadvantages include the extremely slow progress in finalization by the software developer, given that the EVO Nano series was released in January of this year and still does not meet the declared functionality and performance. In particular, there are problems with auto-return to the take-off point, problems with calculating the remaining battery charge, which can lead to an emergency landing on the way back due to an insufficient battery charge suddenly detected by the system. In addition to the software, users also complain about the operation of the alert system and the overall fragility of the drone.
Summarizing all of the above in this review: The EVO Nano series of drones is one of the best offerings in its niche with the indicative potential of full-sized UAVs. By purchasing this model today, you will by and large not be disappointed with the overall performance of the drone, however, you will have to temporarily put up with the imperfect state of the software part and the absence of some key features of the drone, which will undoubtedly appear in its arsenal later with the arrival of the next firmware update.
